Good Books in Bad Times gives a nod and a wink to other media and blogs chattering about the power of books to help us through difficult times. We will regularly write about and link to any kindred efforts that we stumble upon, like we did here.
First up, Minnesota Public Radio did a segment on “Good Books for Tough Times” with book suggestions from listeners and well known book critics. Recommendations run the gamut from Breath by Tim Winton, a coming of age novel by an Australian writer, and The Great Stink, a novel about the London sewer system, to a classic like Bleak House by Dickens.
Personal and consumer finance site WalletPop also recommends “books for hard times.” Maybe it is all in the name, but we’re particularly taken with this suggestion from their article: Good Poems for Hard Times by Garrison Keillor.
